    1. I'm not sure I understand your question...you'd just pick a shade that matched your tanned skin. No tips or tricks needed, just get what matches

    2. ..I thought that when your tanned you must choose a foundation with a shade darker than your shade and with a warm undertone, even if you have it cool...is it correct? sorry but I'm a bit confused!

    3. No, that seems like an insane rule. I can't see why choosing a foundation when you're tan should be any different than choosing one when you're not tan. Either time you choose one that matches you exactly, undertone and all.

  2. Thank you so much for posting this! It's really an awesome post...I've been wondering which shade I'm in MAC but I wasn't keen on going to the only story in my country to find out...
You're such an awesome person! I love your posts!

  3. Thanks I think I might be wearing the wrong shade, but since I'm like NW45 I think the C8 might oxidizes to the right color.

  11. Hi, what would be MAC's comparison to n6 and w7? are they around about the same colour? I wanted to order this foundation online since they dont have all the shades here in australia. I am currently using revlon colorstay's golden caramel and sometimes toast. What do you recommend as the closest match?

    Thank you!

  21. Hi I normally wear MAC C4 do you know what color by Loreal true match powder would be closest to that? Thanks :)

  22. I thought if you were nc anything you got 'c' or 'n' in loreal stuff.
I think I ordered the wrong thing then .... i'm NC45 and just purchased C7 online (almost got N7) but I can't cancel it now. :/

    1. Yeah, unfortunately the C with MAC and the C with Loreal mean two different things. MAC considers golden tones to be cool, where most other cosmetic companies (like loreal) consider cool to be rose tones

      Delete
    2. Well then is it still possible C7 could work if I actually lean slightly red?

      Delete
    3. For some reason NC45 still works on me being a bit neutral/leaning red undertone but I also usually wear powders that have a red/pink/rose undertone to them set it too.

  25. I wear NC37 Studio Fix Fluid. I would like to try out store brands, I've heard really good things about Loreal True Match; which shade would I be? Or any brands would be helpful too please (:

    1. Hi Carla! I'm not a MAC expert by any means, but from looking at the swatches at the top and the comparisons under that, I think a close match in the True Match foundation would be W6. As for drugstore foundation brands, it will depend on your skin type (oily, dry, etc.), the amount of coverage you want, type of coverage (matte, demi-matte, luminous...) For full coverage matte I recommend Covergirl 3 in 1 and Revlon Colorstay. In the Colorstay liquid they have one for oily skin & one for dry skin and it's super matte and dries quickly. I like the Colorstay Whipped better because it has a more natural finish while still being long wearing and full coverage. For higher end, a great foundation for long wear is Estée Lauder Double Wear. I am currently obsessed with the "Light" version. It has less coverage than the original liquid, but is just as long-wearing. And for BB Cream I recommend the Garnier one. I know that all these suggestions are matte and long-wearing so I hope I was somewhat helpful.

    2. I agree on most likely w6 .... the swatches are pretty accurate. I am something between nc45/nw43 (sometimes mix in varying degrees or wear nw43 alone depending on formula) and wear c7 (though I can get away with n7). c7 is not on there but you see c6 being the nw43 equivalent and well c7 is after c6 just like nw43 is after nw40.

      Delete
    3. oops....c6 being the nw40 equivalent*

    4. For me looking at the swatches it was so weird because there are 2 options for NW20. I'm glad I didn't try to figure it out in the store because I would have gotten a "C" in Loreal because I'm "W" in MAC. But it looks as if the W3 in True Match would be perfect for me based on the picture. I made a big mistake when building my foundation collection when I started my beauty blog...I was more tan so most of my foundations are a touch too dark for me now. I absolutely STINK at picking my own shade in drugstore foundations so I'm super glad I stumbled on this post and photos!

    7. MAC is kind of backwards imo in the C (what's cool) and W (what's warm) thing imo. I'm more of an 'W' in MAC but i'm a 'C' in L'Oreal.
Also as far as summer vs well the rest of the yr I find most people need a darker AND lighter version of the same foundations. L'Oreal i'm more C8 in summer and more C7 outside of summer. And for MAC well I get redder in my undertone as I get darker like when it gets towards and into the summer and then I go back to being more even mix of red+yellow/golden undertone (aka straight up neutral) or neutral-slightly red as my summer color fades and/or I get "paler" which is why I have to mess around with NC45 alone or mixing with NW43 or just wearing NW43 alone (and again also depending on the MAC formula(s) being used).

  26. How does it compare in coverage and staying power. I am very very oily.

  27. L'Oreal good coverage and can last a while but as long as MAC....worth it's price tho.
